University of Nebraska at Lincoln
The University of Nebraska is a public research institution established in 1869. The inauguration of the university followed the land grant under the 1862 Morrill Act. The University is open to everyone regardless of their sex or nationality.
In the 20th century, the university's dilemma to have its own identity as an intellectual institution and a developing establishment arose. This predicament led to the founding of fraternities and sororities and creating a competitive vibe among the students. The University became a member of the Association of American Universities in 1908. However, it consistently ranked as the least institution based on the criteria set by the AAU.

The activity center was named the Temple Building and was funded mainly by John D. Rockefeller. Buildings from this era were able to survive to this day.
The university's development resulted in its growth in size. The growth led to the founding of a farm campus in 1873. The farm campus established a station at North Platte in 1904. In 1902, the university united with the city of Omaha following its merger with the city's Medical College. |

The beginning of World War II led to constructions of more buildings, classrooms, and establishments of student unions. Further, Love Memorial Library was established during this time as well. After the inauguration of the Love Library, the Mueller Carillon Tower soon began construction. The peak of the university's enrollment happened in the 1950s when it reached 20,000 students in just ten years. Thanks to this growth, the farm campus became the East Campus. The University of Nebraska changed its name to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln marking the union of the Metropolitan University of Omaha and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Almost 78 percent of the university's population come from Nebraska, and the rest are from outside countries and other states. Students who live on campus are part of the UNL Residence Hall Association, the authority in the residence hall. Over 40% of the student population lives on the nine traditional residence halls in the campus.
Nebraska's athletic team is collectively known as the Cornhuskers. They compete in Division I FBS and the NCAA. The university has a total of 21 varsity teams that participate in various sports events. The team has championship belts for five sports, such as gymnastics, football, and volleyball.
